The historic High Line rail structure offers a grand, public promenade that can be enjoyed by all residents and visitors in New York City.
What Do You Think?
“I like the idea of making use of the industrial infrastructure - using it as a catalyst for new real estate development is definitely a positive thing. That is probably less costly than dismantling the whole thing. Was there a study done to look at real estate value increases if the highline was removed versus developing it in this way? Couldn't all those things in the mission statement of revealing that significant part of the city's industrial past be accomplished with keeping only a four block section and landmarking it? Just curious. I live on the west side too, and there are no people of color shown in your renderings - those are my neighbors on 10th! i hope they can use it. thanks! ”

West 8 proposed an extensive and coherent design for this 2nd park for New York.
What do you find interesting in the park designs that should be explored further?
“I have often thought that Governor's Island could be dedicated to the Eldery and to homeless youth. These are the most vulnerable citizens in NYC so an Island would be a safe haven. •Excellent re-use/re-habilitation potential for of the existing historic architecture • plus some child and geriatric services • in a beautiful public park. • Assign each child a resident "grandparent"; give everyone the support they need. Dreamy.”

West Side Rail Yards

MTA selects Related Companies/Goldman Sachs to develop the West Side Rail Yards after the collapse of the Tishman Speyer agreement.
What Do You Think?
“For far too long this strip of Manhattan's west side has sat desolate and underutilized. Today is a monumental and exciting occasion as we take the first official step towards developing this land. I look forward to the important work yet ahead where, through the City's land use review process, we will work to seek and incorporate public input to make sure the development plans meet community goals such as creating new permanently affordable housing, successful open space and critical public infrastructure.”

Hudson Park and Boulevard

Five teams are competing to earn the commission to be the Consultant for the Design of Hudson Park and Boulevard and Streetscape for Hudson Yards Area.
Which proposal would you choose, and why?
“The Hargreaves Associates proposal looks the best to me. It seems to have the greatest variety in use of space, concentrating on the different tree species, grasses, ecological zones, and other natural elements, combined with spaces for walking, sitting, contemplating, etc. I particularly like the overhead curling trellis, and their concept of "episodic archaeology". It also seems the most practical and doeable plan, while also providing several unique elements not currently seen in the city (e.g. pine barrens, water wall, overhead trellis, etc.). Great plan!”
